The Fourth of July holiday is already upon us! If you want to do the math, there are 174 days until Christmas. (Sorry, didn’t mean to put you into a panic!)
2018 is halfway done, and it’s been a busy time for us at Texas811. So far this year we’ve taken over a million and a half locate requests – up ten percent from last year – and are on track to hit three and a half million locate requests by the end of year.
The 21st annual Texas811 golf tournament raised over $8,000 for the Damage Prevention Councils of Texas and their continuing state-wide work to educate Texans about 811.
And speaking of damage prevention – the Damage Prevention Councils of Texas have been super busy with the popular Mock Line Strike scenarios. 14 have been hosted so far, with another 23 on the schedule. (see the remaining Mock Line Strike schedule here)
Texas811 President Chris Stovall joined Greg Smith, President of Shell Pipeline Company, LP and Great Day Houston host Deborah Duncan on Houston CBS affiliate KHOU for the June 4 program. Topics included the 811 system in Texas, hurricane preparations and why 811 is so important in the aftermath, and a sneak peek at the coming 811 day celebrations in Houston including a concert – “811 Presents Cody Johnson & Friends” – at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday, August 11, 2018. You can see the interview here.
Chris also took to the airwaves for the Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) Radio Network. The TFB is the #1 agricultural news network in the state, with 68 stations covering all of Texas. Chris recorded three programs, and while they are no longer available on the TFB website, you can read the TFB 811 article here.
We don’t have room here to list all of our other many public outreach efforts in the first half of 2018 – there’s barely space to tell you that the International Locate Rodeo is coming up Thursday – Saturday October 11 – 13.
Remember, filing a locate request with 811 reduces your chances of an underground incident to less than one percent. Those are better odds than the house gets in Las Vegas!
We’re here for you 24/7/365, on the phone or online through the Texas811 Portal.
Out of sight should never mean out of mind. At Texas811, we’re working hard to be your connection to safety.
Have a great Fourth of July holiday!
