The annual Texas811 Damage Prevention Summit is in the books for 2018 and everyone is off to a great start for workplace safety, working with underground utility locating services, doing the call 811 before you dig dance, and just taking a big role in damage prevention in Texas!
Last year we processed something on the order of three million locate requests. That’s three million times that Texans put their trust in Texas811 to get those underground utilities located, flagged and marked before excavation.
When you make an 811 request, you set into motion a smoothly running chain of events that culminates in locate notifications to let you excavate safely.
And if you wonder what happens when that call to 811 isn’t made – you need to attend one of the upcoming Mock Line Strikes/PipelineResponse demos held with Enertech.
These events were very popular in 2017, and we expect to see continued interest this year. The first one is coming up on Friday, March 23, in Plano. At these events you see what happens when a buried “gas” line is struck by accident, and how local first responders and the gas utility deal with the problem.
Well over 30 of these events are planned for this year. You can see the full schedule and all particulars here: http://diggingtexas811.com
Still not sure what happens at a Mock Line Strike? Here is a story from the CBS affiliate in Wichita Falls last year: http://www.newschannel6now.com/story/34933990/first-responders-practice-saving-lives-at-mock-gas-line-strike
Of course, as we move into 2018, don’t forget to attend your local Damage Prevention Council meetings.
Information for those events can be found here: http://dpcoftexas.com
So just remember – call 811 before you dig. Attend a Mock Line Strike event or attend one of your local Damage Prevention Council meetings. Just like the call to 811 and the subsequent locate, it’s all free!
Workplace safety is everyone’s job. Help us help you.
Until next time, safe digging!
