We are now well into football season. How are your teams doing? Do you follow a high school, a college, a pro team?
Of course, we’re all pulling for the Houston Texans, after everything Houston has been through recently. They are currently standing at 1-1, at 3rd in the AFC South. And if you’re a Dallas Cowboys fan, well, they are also at 1-1, and 2nd in the NFC East.
There are a lot of college teams in our state, but none of them really matter except for the University of Texas (hey, I went there, I write this blog, and if I want to push the Longhorns I will!) *editor’s note: feel free to send your favorite college team to email@example.com and whoever gets the most votes will get a mention next week.
Of course, for all of us here at Texas811 there’s just one score that matters: how many of you are using 811 to get your dig sites marked before excavation?
As of September 1 last year we had processed 2,011,523 locates. As of September 1 this year we’re at 2,148,528. That’s called running up the score!
It’s also a lot of people who are interested in preventing damage to Texas’ underground infrastructure.
But, like your favorite team winning a game, we could always use a higher score. The Common Ground Alliance estimates an underground facility is damaged in the United States every six minutes because someone didn’t call 811 before digging.
That means there are still plenty of people out there who aren’t calling 811 – so let them know!
It’s a free call, and the locate service is also free. See us at www.texas811.org for more information. Just like your favorite team websites, we’re open 24/7/365.
And the next time you go into the huddle to plan your excavation, don’t come out, fumble, and forget the audible that matters most of all – CALL 811!!!!
Down, set, hut one, hut two, call 811 and go Longhorns!
Until next week, safe digging!
