We were proud to be part of the 141st State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association annual training conference and convention in San Marcos this past weekend. The SFFMA has over 22,000 members and their job is to “Promote, Unify, Represent, and Educate The Fire Service of Texas.”
Along with our PipelineResponse and Mock Line Strike partner Enertech, we represented important training and safety guidelines to these brave men and women.
Did you catch that part at the beginning about it being the 141st training conference?
Organized in 1876, SFFMA is Texas’ oldest and largest fire association serving the fire and emergency service responders of Texas and beyond.
SFFMA has the support of over 1,200 fire departments, 20,000 individual members, 80 industrial fire brigades, and multiple EMS and international departments. The association is extremely active in legislative efforts that affect the fire, EMS, and industrial service in Texas, and has been successful in getting legislation passed that greatly affects emergency service responders in Texas.
The exhibit floor was crowded with firefighting tools and equipment, classroom training was going on all day, but the real fun came in the late afternoon with the pumper hose contests. Basically 3 and 6 man teams – and women’s teams – competed to see who could run out, connect up, and charge a hose line the fastest, then let loose with a high powered jet of water.
Watching the competition in the San Marcos sunshine was thirsty work – but the Texas811 Sno-Cone team was on hand!
Of course, we also wanted attendees to remember Texas811, and to call 811 before they dig. To do that, you’ve got to keep your name out among the public, and you’ve got to start people on the 811 idea EARLY in life!
Well, maybe not that early!
Many thanks to the incredible Gabi Glass, CMP, SFFMA Event Coordinator for all of her hospitality and help.
