SO LONG, 2016
We made it! This is the last blog for 2016 – but 2017 will be double the fun. I’m also writing the blog for the Damage Prevention Councils of Texas at http://blog.dpcoftexas.com starting next week. In fact, there are already a few of them posted there already.
Looking back at 2016, we had a banner year at Texas811. Over three million incoming locate requests for underground line identification were handled by us. Our Spanish initiatives continued to grow. We did more Safety Day/Mock Line Strike/Pipeline Response events, with even more scheduled for 2017. The Damage Prevention Managers burned streaks across Texas traveling to the 23 Damage Prevention Councils and their meetings. In August, we reached and passed the 1600 member mark. The 2016 Summit was hugely popular, and an even more exciting one is planned for 2017. With the addition of a staff videographer/editor, we were able to bring you entertaining and informative videos on a scale not seen before.
Oh, yeah, and the Cubs won the World Series!
The mild weather we’ve been having in Texas as the year ends means there’s little if any slowing down of construction, which means more reasons than ever to call, log on or use the Texas811 apps to get your dig site under control before breaking ground.
There are so many reasons to call 811 before you dig, all of them good. Is there a reason not to call Texas811 before excavating? Well, yes, we’ll admit this. If you are a three year old child with a toy bulldozer sitting in a sandbox, you’re probably ok. Everyone else, CALL FIRST!!!!!
In the new year, remember to visit our websites at texas811.org and dpcoftexas.com.
Remember that homeowners, contractors, independent excavators, farmers, ranchers – anyone who will be breaking ground in Texas – needs to call 811 first.
And always remember – this service is FREE, as is the subsequent marking/flagging of underground lines.
On a personal note, I wrote these words at the beginning of the year: “Today I weighed in at 219. I’m just over six feet tall. When I write the last blog of 2016, I want to weigh 190.” Well, I didn’t hit 190. I am currently at 210. Sigh. Well, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
I’ve always signed these blogs off with the words “until next week, safe digging” but today I get to make a slight editorial change:
Until next year, safe digging!
