What is the biggest day of the year? Ask a dozen people, you’ll get a dozen answers. For those of us in the 811 safety and damage prevention industry, the biggest day of the year is: August 11!
Yes, that date is numerically known as 8-11. For us, 811. The number you call FREE coast to coast and border to border in the United States to get underground pipelines and cables and such located and marked for FREE to give you the heads up before you begin digging.
“For free?” you ask. “What’s the catch?”
There is no catch. It’s a free call, and the subsequent locating service is also free. Did we mention it’s free?
Those colors indicate the type of buried infrastructure in the area, and warn excavators, contractors, farmers, ranchers, homeowners – anyone digging – of what is below and to proceed CAREFULLY.
Texas811, the nation’s largest 811 call center, is celebrating 811 day this year in a variety of ways – from teaming up with Atmos Energy for a Texas Rangers ball game, to working with Cox Utility Services for a San Antonio Missions ball game, to working with the famous Dallas Omni Hotel to have our logo and 811 message displayed on the 26 story side of this building on August 11 to participating in big block parties in Houston to a myriad of other events across our state.
As a non-profit entity, we’re proud to say we report to Texans and to our members – whose numbers are about to hit the 1600 mark. That’s 1600 businesses that put their trust in Texas811 – from Verizon to Texas A&M University to the city of Austin.
And by putting their trust in us, they’re putting your trust in them to keep you safe and keep your utilities and services up and running.
Until next week, safe digging!
