It’s déjà vu all over again.
811 sponsored jockey Victor Espinoza is ONE WIN away from horse racing’s coveted Triple Crown, riding American Pharoah. If it seems like you’ve seen this scenario before, you have – last year, also sponsored by 811, Espinoza was one win away from the Triple Crown aboard California Chrome.
Espinoza and American Pharoah won the Preakness Stakes on Saturday in impressive fashion, seven lengths ahead of the nearest challenger on a wet and muddy track.
In less than three weeks, the final test takes place. American Pharoah is the 14th horse to have a shot at winning it all since it was last done in 1978 by Affirmed.
We’ll wait and see if Espinoza can bury the ghost of Triple Crowns past!
Meanwhile, speaking of burials, did you hear the one about the two gangsters who were about to be engaged in dirty work at the crossroads – but didn’t call 811 first?
It’s the subject of our first Texas811 public service announcement. You can see it here:
The thirty second spot highlights the need to call 811 before ANY digging – no matter the reason why you’re digging in the first place!
The PSA is already in play on one Dallas-Fort Worth station, and will soon be rolling out across the state.
Sharp-eyed Texas811 members may recognize the cowboy hat wearing hood as Texas811 Director of Damage Prevention JimBob Sims. The other gangster is Rick Pollard – who again may be recognizable as the Texas811 Wagon Hoss who’s responsible for the popular S’wagon and food trailer seen at many Texas811 member events.
Doing a cameo turn in the trunk as the goodfella with a momentary reprieve is Randy Wright.
The video was shot and edited by two-time Emmy® winner Daniel Penz, and written and produced by multiple Telly® winner Scott Finley.

Don’t be taken for a ride – ALWAYS call 811 before digging!
