Two years in a row – 811 sponsored jockey Victor Espinoza has ridden to the finish line in the Kentucky Derby!
Thundering down the stretch, American Pharoah (yes, that’s the way this horse’s name is spelled) claimed the first leg of the Triple Crown. Espinoza and American Pharoah get their next test in the Preakness. Espinoza has won both the Derby and the Preakness on the same horse twice before, including last year when 811 sponsored him aboard California Chrome. If he and American Pharoah can do it again at the Preakness, they are a credible threat to be the first to claim the Triple Crown since 1978.
While the 141st “Run for the Roses” drew big attention on Saturday – another event on Sunday was just as important. The Day of the Construction Worker “El dia del trabajador de la construccion.”

This year’s winners are:

RHCA Superintendent/ Foreman of the Year: Jesus “Chuy” Mosqueda, Reyes Group Ltd..
RHCA Excellence in Safety Award: Luis Diaz, Archer Western Construction.
The Regional Hispanic Contractors Association (formerly the Hispanic Contractors Association of DFW) was formed in 1995 to address the needs of one of the fastest growing sectors of the construction industry. The mission of the Regional Hispanic Contractors Association is to promote and support the advancement and economic growth of the Hispanic Contractors in Texas.
Some of the RHCA’s programs include: a website (http://regionalhca.org/) for members to use as a resource guide for upcoming jobs, financial, legal assistance, insurance and bonds, etc. The RHCA is also working on setting up classes to help more Hispanics become bilingual. In addition, they are starting up a mentoring program to help individuals train and learn about all aspects of the construction industry.
Texas811 is proud to be a member of the RHCA in Dallas, Austin and San Antonio. As the non-profit 811 call center in Texas, part of our ongoing mission of damage prevention is to further 811 education to ALL workers in EVERY field having to do ANYTHING with excavation. We are leading the way in Spanish translations of 811 materials in Texas, as well as having over 40 bilingual Damage Prevention Agents and Damage Prevention Managers to serve this fast-growing sector of the work force.
From all of us at Texas811 to the RHCA and its members, ¡Felicidades!
